does yoga nidra work ?
I saw this question in a Facebook Group
...and it made me do a double take.
I was like "WHAT??? Someone is really asking this??? Of COURSE yoga nidra works. Doesn't everyone know that?"
Then I read the comments and realised, I shouldn't have been so quick to assume...
Like me, most people were all "YES, of course it does!"
But there were a few commenters who weren't too sure..
Some had tried it once and felt nothing. Others said they fell asleep and figured they did it “wrong.” A few even said it felt like a waste of time; I mean… don’t you have to do something for it to count as healing?
And honestly? I get it. If you don’t understand how Yoga Nidra works (physiologically, neurologically, energetically) it’s easy to write it off as just another wellness trend.
But here’s what I know to be true after over a decade of practice, teaching, and witnessing hundreds of students and clients go through this work: Yoga Nidra is one of the most effective, research-backed tools we have for nervous system regulation, subconscious rewiring, and sustainable transformation.
The problem isn’t the practice. It’s the way it's often introduced; without context, without structure, and without guidance that bridges science and soul. That’s exactly why I created Nidra Nirvana. Because when you truly understand the why behind the what, the practice becomes impossible to ignore.
What’s wild is that neuroscientists and sleep researchers are finally catching up to what ancient traditions have known for centuries. They’ve even coined a new term: NSDR (Non-Sleep Deep Rest). It’s a modern, research-backed label for practices like Yoga Nidra that allow your brain to enter deeply restorative states without actually being asleep.
Dr. Andrew Huberman (a Stanford neuroscientist) has spoken at length about the benefits of NSDR for learning, memory consolidation, nervous system regulation, and even resetting dopamine levels. Translation? This isn’t just woo. It’s wired into your biology.
Yoga Nidra is one of the most effective forms of NSDR, and when practiced consistently, it has the power to rewire your stress response, replenish your energy, and sharpen your focus, all while lying down doing what looks like “nothing.”
But it’s not nothing. It’s deep, intentional, neurobiological restoration.
If you want to learn more about how to practice and then guide others through this life changing practice, I've gotchu...
Whether you’re a seasoned pro looking for a refresh or you're setting up your practice for the very first time, you won’t want to miss this. 🫶
